Venezuelan driver Raúl González decided to open a very personal stage of his life when he launched his autobiographical book The truth dies standing up. In this work, the presenter shared for the first time in a public way details about his sexual orientation, a subject he kept private for years.
At the time, the also co-host of the program Despierta América explained that talking about this aspect of his life was not easy, as it involved facing social prejudices and questioning that many people in the LGBTQ+ community often experience.
During one of his reflections, Gonzalez expressed that no one would choose to live something that could bring pain or social rejection, but that he finally decided to share his story because he wanted to be true to himself.
“Today, at 53 years old, I can say that I feel free because I have been a congruent, respectful man with values,” he said at the time.
In his statements, the presenter also took the opportunity to send a special message to parents who are going through similar situations with their children. As he explained, many times the process of acceptance can be complex both for those who are going through it and for their close environment.
For him, love and respect must prevail over any prejudice or social belief.
“There are many people who in the name of God condemn you or think it’s wrong, but no one would choose something that causes them so much pain because of what society thinks,” he commented.
González emphasized that unconditional love within the family is fundamental for people to live with peace of mind and authenticity.

The driver explained that he has always been very reserved with his personal life, but after the process of acceptance and growth he went through, he decided to allow himself to experience love again.
During the interview, González also made it clear that his partner does not belong to show business or public life. For that reason, he has preferred to keep his identity private.
“I have always been very careful with my personal life, and this person is not a public figure, so I prefer to respect his privacy,” he explained.
Despite this, the driver did not hesitate to admit that he is going through a very positive emotional moment.
When asked directly if he was in love, he answered truthfully, “Yes, I am very much in love.”
