At Nemesio Díez Stadium, located 2,600 meters above sea level, the Pumas took the field without feeling outmatched by the CONCACAF champion.

But just as they were playing their best, in the 14th minute, Díaz received a pass from the Brazilian Helinho and, with a left-footed shot, made it 1-0.

Toluca slowed down and paid the price.

In the 57th minute, Arteaga tied the game with a left-footed shot; and in the 64th minute, Córdova received a pass from Rodrigo López and headed the ball in to give his team the win.

Led by Argentine coach Antonio Mohamed, Toluca went on the offensive.

They attacked down the wings and took shots from the center, but the Pumas, led by Costa Rican goalkeeper Keylor Navas, held on and secured their first win.

This came after they were routed 0-3 by Pachuca in their season opener.

Toluca suffered its first setback after defeating Guadalajara 0-2 last Saturday (Filed under: Pumas Defeat Toluca in Comeback).

Luka Romero and Ebere scored for the Blues, and Fernando Monárrez scored for Puebla, which put up a fight on its rivals’ home turf and was the better team at times.

Since they will be playing for the “Champion of Champions” title next Saturday, Cruz Azul and Toluca moved up their Matchday 2 games.

Matchday 2 will resume from this Friday through Sunday with the following matches:

Atlante vs. América, Tijuana vs. León, Guadalajara vs. Juárez FC, Santos Laguna vs. Atlas, Tigres UANL vs. San Luis, Necaxa vs. Monterrey, and Pachuca vs. Querétaro (Filed under: Pumas defeat Toluca in a comeback victory).
