This week’s premiere of “Toy Story 5” kicks off the release season for major Hollywood productions, which coincides with summer in the Northern Hemisphere. This year’s lineup ranges from the new Spider-Man to Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated adaptation of *The Odyssey*, as well as *Moana* and *Supergirl*.

‘Toy Story 5’ (June 17–19)
The fifth installment of Woody and Buzz Lightyear’s adventures was already a major event in the 2026 movie calendar, but the collaborations featuring Bad Bunny (who will voice Pizza with Sunglasses), Penélope Cruz (Flamenco), and Bizarrap (Garden Gnome)—as well as Taylor Swift’s contribution with the song “I Knew It, I Knew You”—have skyrocketed fans’ anticipation for the saga’s conclusion.

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ (July 29–31)
Another highly anticipated return: the fourth installment of the Spider-Man series starring Tom Holland and Zendaya, set to hit theaters in the final days of July. Set four years after ‘No Way Home’—the film in which Strange erased Peter Parker from everyone’s memory—Peter Parker now dedicates himself to protecting New York and has voluntarily disappeared from the lives of those he loves.

‘The Odyssey’ (July 15–17)
With a budget of about $250 million, according to U.S. media reports, Christopher Nolan has taken on a massive challenge: adapting a legendary novel that, until now, has never managed to capture on screen the depth of Homer’s epic. The British director has given it his all on this project, filmed using the latest IMAX technology and featuring a star-studded cast—including Matt Damon, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, and Lupita Nyong’o.

‘Supergirl’ (June 24–26)
Australian actress Milly Alcock, known for her role as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen in the series ‘House of the Dragon,’ dons the costume of Supergirl, Superman’s irreverent cousin, in this new attempt to create a successful movie about this DC superheroine, who was the subject of a failed film back in 1984.

‘The Dog Stars’ (August 26–28)
, Jacob Elordi, Josh Brolin, Margaret Qualley, and Guy Pearce are in the cast of ‘The Dog Stars,’ a thriller directed by Ridley Scott, which adapts Peter Heller’s bestseller about Hig, a young pilot who, along with Bangley, a military survival expert, has built an efficient but isolated home in a post-apocalyptic world.

‘Minions & Monsters’ (July 1–2)
Following the success of ‘Despicable Me 4,’ which was the fourth highest-grossing film worldwide in 2024, the hilarious Minions return alongside new characters to tell the zany story of how these yellow creatures conquered Hollywood and became movie stars. It is the seventh feature film in this animated franchise.

‘Moana’ (July 8–10)
Moana’s adventures make the leap from animation to live action in this new installment of the Disney saga set in Polynesia. Dwayne Johnson reprises his role as the demigod Maui, whom he previously only voiced, while Catherine Laga’aia—an actress with just one TV series on her resume—steps into the role of the tribal chief’s daughter turned heroine. A musical film featuring songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda.

And once again, animation—though mixed with live-action—features in this film based on a story by James Gunn (director and screenwriter of *Superman* and *Guardians of the Galaxy*) and starring Will Forte, Lana Condor, P.J. Byrne, and John Cena, alongside the iconic animated characters from Looney Tunes, according to Agencia EFE.
