Mexico’s Isaac Alarcón, who served a six-game suspension for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing substance policy, was dismissed Monday from the San Francisco 49ers.
Alarcón, a 27-year-old offensive lineman, became a free agent and can sign with any other team in the league. Last April, the player, after receiving his punishment, explained that his positive test was due to the consumption of a protein that he was unaware contained a substance that was not allowed.
Admits mistake and apologizes

“I used a protein that I included in my routine a couple of times, completely unaware that it contained a ‘banned substance’ by the league.”
“The same was detected in the last test I had,” said Isaac Alarcón.
The native of Monterrey (Nuevo León) did not appeal the sanction and apologized for the oversight.
“I accept with humility this mistake and I fully understand the sanction that was given to me, which I promise never to commit again, as I will pay more attention to the supplements I will use in the future,” he said.
Isaac Alarcón arrived in the NFL in 2020 through the International Player Pathway program, which seeks talent from around the world.
In his first three years in the league, the lineman was with the Dallas Cowboys before signing with the Gambusinos in 2024.
He remained with the practice squad throughout that regular season.
Alarcón fights for a place in the NFL

Isaac Alarcón explained that throughout his time in the NFL he has tried to live up to the expectations of being considered for the 53-player roster of the teams he has played for, something he has yet to do.
“These last five years have been the happiest of my life, but also the most physically and mentally demanding.”
“So keeping myself in the best possible shape through rigorous training has been one of my top priorities,” he said.
Also on Monday, the 49ers waived German offensive lineman Kilian Zierer, whom they also signed under the International Player Pathway program.
