His breakthrough in Europe came in 2007 with AZ Alkmaar in the Netherlands, where he won the Eredivisie.

He subsequently played for Espanyol, PSV Eindhoven, AS Roma and Real Sociedad before returning to Mexico.

With Mexico’s senior national team, Héctor Moreno played in four World Cups (South Africa 2010, Brazil 2014, Russia 2018 and Qatar 2022), establishing himself as one of the country’s most consistent defenders.

In his farewell letter shared on social networks, Héctor Moreno expressed:

“Today I say goodbye to the field as a professional soccer player… soccer gave me moments that I will never forget: wearing the Mexico jersey, playing in World Cups, getting to know new cities…”.

He also added that he still has “the illusion of closing this stage with Rayados, fighting for one more championship” before the end of his career.
