Long before becoming one of Spain’s most renowned singer-songwriters, Manuel Carrasco led a very different life. Born in Isla Cristina, a fishing town in the south of the country, he held various jobs to help support his family. Among other things, he worked as a house painter, sold seafood, and performed various tasks related to the fishing industry—experiences that, over the years, have strengthened his identity and influenced his understanding of music.
His life took a turn in 2002, when, at just 21 years old, he decided to participate in the hit talent show *Operación Triunfo*. Although he didn’t win first place, the competition marked the beginning of an artistic career that has now spanned more than two decades and has established him as one of the most important voices in Spanish pop.
Now, at age 45, Carrasco presents *Pueblo Salvaje I*, his tenth studio album—a collection of eleven songs in which he blends pop with flamenco influences and seeks to reconnect with his roots.
Manuel Carrasco and His New Album: A Tribute to Identity
In an interview with EL COLOMBIANO, the artist explained that his new album is deeply rooted in his Andalusian heritage. For him, flamenco is not just a musical genre, but an essential part of his personality and the culture of southern Spain.
The singer noted that, over time, he has come to understand the importance of delving deeper into what defines him as a person. He believes that authenticity is the best calling card for any artist and that the most universal stories often arise precisely from the experiences closest to home.
That is why he decided to title the album *Pueblo Salvaje I*, referring to the value of small towns—those places where, he says, one finds the most profound lessons and the memories that shape one’s life. Although he has lived in Madrid for years, he says he has never lost his connection to the land where he grew up, and that this connection remains present in each of his compositions.
Carrasco describes this album as a very personal and conceptual project. Unlike his other works, this time he decided to look inward to reflect on the emotions, contradictions, and uncertainties that are part of everyday life.
The composer acknowledges that he constantly asks himself who he is, where he wants to go, and how to face the challenges that arise along the way. Far from becoming an obstacle, these doubts serve as the starting point for writing his songs.
The artist believes that all human beings experience moments of insecurity and that, for this reason, it is essential to learn to speak to oneself with kindness and to take care of oneself. In his view, the world around us already presents enough challenges without adding more personal pressures.
Far from trying to preach life lessons, Manuel Carrasco says he writes songs to better understand his own emotions. He explains that each song serves as a conversation with himself—a way to organize his thoughts and find answers to complex situations.
In *Pueblo Salvaje I*, he addresses themes such as change, pain, loss, hope, and the ability to reinvent oneself. The singer notes that the album alternates between uplifting moments and more melancholic ones, thus reflecting the duality that characterizes the human experience.
He also expresses satisfaction at having grown as a composer and at not always repeating the same stories, as he believes that growing also involves exploring new emotions and new ways of telling them.
Colombia, a country that holds a special place in his career: Collaboration with Juanes
During the conversation, Carrasco also spoke of his affection for Colombia, a country with which he has forged a close relationship on both a professional and personal level.
He recalled that he has shared important musical experiences with artists such as Camilo, Morat, and Juanes—collaborations that have allowed him to get to know the Colombian audience even better and enjoy memorable performances. He particularly highlighted his recent work with Juanes, whom he not only admires but also considers a great friend.
The singer explained that one of the greatest rewards of music is the opportunity to forge bonds with other artists, share experiences, and learn from one another—in addition to the affection he receives from the audience at every performance.
Looking ahead, Manuel Carrasco expressed his desire to return to Latin America very soon, on a tour that could take place between late 2026 and early 2027.
He also admitted that there are several Colombian musicians with whom he would like to collaborate. Among them, he mentioned Carlos Vives, whose style and career he deeply admires, as well as Andrés Cepeda, whose compositions have been a source of inspiration for him. He even enthusiastically recalled one of the Bogotá-based singer’s best-known songs, making it clear that Colombian music holds an important place among his influences.
With *Pueblo Salvaje I*, Manuel Carrasco reaffirms that success has not changed who he is at heart and that, despite his long career, he continues to find inspiration in his roots, his experiences, and the emotions he shares with those who listen to his music.
