In the last few days, social networks were invaded by a rumor that generated confusion among users: the alleged death of Mexican actress Leticia Calderón. It all started when a manipulated video began to circulate in which, apparently, the host Galilea Montijo announced the news on television. The massive dissemination of the clip caused confusion, concern and a wave of messages addressed to both the host of the program Hoy and the affected actress.

However, both public figures quickly came out to deny the information, clarifying that it was false content created for unknown purposes. The incident brought back to the table the problem of fake news and audiovisual montages circulating without verification on digital platforms.

The fake ad originated on TikTok, where a user posted a video in which Galilea Montijo appeared in front of a camera, supposedly reporting on the death of Leticia Calderón. The edition imitated the format of a news segment, with the purpose of making it look real.

Soon after, the video was replicated on different accounts and platforms, including Facebook and X (formerly Twitter), which contributed to its rapid viralization. Within hours, thousands of users began sharing it and leaving messages of condolences, without verifying the authenticity of the content.

The disinformation spread so fast that some media of dubious provenance republished the news without confirming it, further amplifying the impact of the rumor.

Faced with the avalanche of messages of concern and the confusion generated, Leticia Calderón decided to make a public statement to clarify that she is in perfect health.

The actress, known for her participation in telenovelas such as Esmeralda and En nombre del amor, used her official X account (formerly Twitter) to calm her followers. In her post she shared a recent photograph accompanied by the message: “I’m alive and kicking, excellent week”.

Her message had a wide reach, generating hundreds of comments of relief from her fans and colleagues in the artistic world. Many users thanked her for taking the situation with humor and quickly clarifying the falsity of the rumors.

The chaos in social networks did not stop there. At the same time, another video starring journalist Adela Micha began to circulate, in which she was seen sending condolences to Leticia Calderón, although without mentioning the specific reason for her message.

The clip was taken out of context and used to reinforce the false narrative of the alleged tragedy. Even so, the most widely disseminated and commented video was the one showing Galilea Montijo, making the hostess unintentionally the main face of the disinformation.

Faced with the magnitude of the misunderstanding, Galilea Montijo decided to address the issue publicly during the broadcast of the program Hoy on October 27. In the middle of the live broadcast, the host addressed the audience to categorically deny the news and warned about the danger of believing in false videos generated and manipulated on the Internet.

Buzzy explained that she never made any statement related to the alleged death of Leticia Calderón, and regretted that her image has been used in a misleading manner. She also asked viewers to verify the information before sharing it and to avoid disseminating content without reliable sources.

The case of Leticia Calderón and Galilea Montijo is a new example of how disinformation can easily spread on social networks, affecting the reputation and peace of mind of public figures.

Both the actress and the host responded with serenity and professionalism, managing to stop the rumor before it took on greater proportions. However, the episode left a clear lesson: in the digital era, verifying the veracity of content has become an essential task to stop the spread of false news that can harm the people involved.
