Reguetonero Daddy Yankee, who will return to the stage next week, now seeks to “transform lives” with his renewed Christianity and advises new artists, after his divorce, to sign a prenuptial agreement before getting married, according to an interview with Billboard magazine.

The artist, who will perform at the Billboard Latin Music Awards 2025 on October 23 in Miami after a nearly two-year hiatus, said that “now” his “purpose is to transform lives through music,” as he spoke for the first time about his “renewed Christian faith,” which he cultivated during his time away from the industry.

“This is an obligation that all of us who are in the faith, who are converted, have.”

“I can’t just convert and be quiet, you know? This is not just about making Christian music.

“The challenge is to put the kingdom in pop culture,” mentioned Daddy Yankee in Billboard’s ‘Reborn’ cover story.

The performer will perform at the James L. Knight Center at the award ceremony in Miami, which represents his return after concluding in December 2023 ‘The Last Lap’, which he then called his “farewell tour”.

In addition, Daddy Yankee will make his first public interview in three years during Billboard Latin Music Week.

In the days leading up to the awards, when he will sit down with Leila Cobo, Billboard magazine’s executive director for Latin content and programming.

The Puerto Rican singer announced that he is working on a new album after releasing ‘Sonríele’, a Christian song in July, an area to which he has dedicated himself during his break from the stage.

On the other hand, Daddy Yankee recommended emerging artists to sign a prenuptial agreement, also called capitulation, before getting married.

This after the conflicts he had with his ex-wife Mireddys González, whom he divorced in February after almost thirty years of marriage and two children in common.

“Music is unpredictable.”

“Even if you are not famous or successful, and you are just starting your career, marry with capitulation.”

“Even if your career hasn’t exploded, even if you’re not (yet) recognized. Because music is unpredictable,” suggested Daddy Yankee.

The Billboard and Billboard Español double cover interview comes after it was revealed last Friday that Daddy Yankee’s legal representatives and his ex-wife reached an agreement so that the Puerto Rican urban artist can use his professional trademarks, including his stage name and pseudonyms.

Ramón Luis Ayala Rodríguez, the singer’s real name, filed a new lawsuit last week in the Federal Court of Hato Rey (San Juan).

He alleged that his ex-wife sought to prevent him from using certain trademarks, including Daddy Yankee and DY, acronyms he adopted to avoid giving royalties to his ex-partner.
