Democratic Congresswomen from Minnesota and Michigan, Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib, shouted out during the State of the Union at U.S. President Donald Trump as he charged against the immigrant community in the country and accused him of lying and “killing Americans.”
“The first duty of the U.S. government is to protect American citizens, not illegal immigrants,” the Republican declared, prompting a standing ovation from Republicans and a Democratic protest.

The response from the Democratic caucus was boos and rejection of the president’s words.
“You are killing Americans! Alex was not a criminal,” Rashida Tlaib shouted at the president, referring to the murder of Alex Pretti, an American who died at the hands of federal agents last January.
“Shame on them for not standing up,” the president said of the Democrats’ reaction.
During his remarks, Trump again lashed out at the Somali community in Minneapolis, whom he has repeatedly accused of taking advantage of the United States and committing fraud and of whom he went so far as to say that “they suck.”
“The Somali pirates who plundered Minnesota remind us that there are large parts of the world where bribery, corruption and lawlessness are the norm, not the exception, importing these cultures through unrestricted immigration and open borders,” he added.
This infuriated Omar, who called him a “liar” and also accused him of ending the lives of U.S. citizens.
In his address, Trump defended his immigration policies to the hilt and claimed that the country now has “the strongest border by far” it has ever had thanks to him.
“In the last nine months, zero illegal aliens have been admitted to the United States. But we will always allow people to enter legally, people who will love our country and work hard to maintain our nation,” the president said in his address to the joint session of Congress.
The deaths at the hands of federal agents of two U.S. citizens during protests over immigration raids in Minneapolis have sparked a political crisis that has led to the shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
