The Irish rock band U2 released “Streets of Dreams” on Tuesday, a song with a chorus partly in Spanish —”La calle, la calle del sueño,” sing Bono and his bandmates—and which is the first single from what will be their first album in nine years, set for release later this year.

The song is accompanied by a video that the group filmed last May in Mexico City while attending the final of the 2026 Street Child World Cup, held at the Lago de Texcoco Ecological Park, Universal Music reported in a press release.

The video shoot, which took place near Plaza de Santo Domingo, drew hundreds of fans despite the bad weather, the article notes, adding that a severe storm with rain and thunder even caused one of the generators used for the shoot to break down.

A local family opened the doors of their home to Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen Jr. so they could continue filming from the balcony of their apartment.

The band performed the song on the roof of a school bus that had been decorated with graffiti by Mexican artist Chavis Mármol. The front of the bus bore the phrase “La calle de los sueños,” the Spanish translation of the song’s title.

A song with a strong social theme, featuring lines such as “La calle, calle del sueño/ Justice an obsession on the street of dreams” (Justice, an obsession on the street of dreams).

Produced by Jacknife Lee, “Street of Dreams” brings back the unmistakable sound of U2, a band that will mark the 50th anniversary this September of its formation in Dublin, when Larry posted a handwritten note on the bulletin board at Mount Temple Comprehensive School that read: “Drummer seeks musicians to form a band.”

“Street of Dreams” is now available for digital download and on all streaming platforms.

In mid-February of last year, the band released the EP “Days of Ash,” a surprise release featuring six tracks about the current political situation around the world, after a nine-year hiatus from releasing new music.

At the time, the band described this new album as a collection of songs and a poem that are “a response to current events, inspired by the many extraordinary and courageous people fighting on the front lines for freedom.”

His latest studio album was ‘Songs of Experience,’ released on December 1, 2017, and included songs such as ‘You’re the Best Thing About Me’ and ‘Summer of Love,’ according to Agencia EFE.
