U.S. President Donald Trump said Friday in Washington that he practiced soccer, guaranteed he did it well and qualified that although he did not reach the level of Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi, he loved doing it.
“Believe me or not, I played soccer. I played it well, I wouldn’t say I was Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi, but I loved playing it,” the U.S. president told Colombian TV channel RCN Televisión, alongside FIFA president Gianni Infantino.

The draw for the 23rd edition of the World Cup, which will also be hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico, was held at the Kennedy Center in the U.S. capital.
Donald Trump appeared before the press and was then awarded the first FIFA Peace Prize.
“It’s an honor to host this World Cup, it’s a great honor.”
“This event has become bigger than we thought, we are setting a record for ticket sales, which has never been seen before in any sport,” Donald Trump told RCN.
Regarding visa facilities for Latin American fans who want to go to the World Cup, he assured:
“We will make everything easy for them. We’re working on it right now and we’ll make it a simple process.”

In interviews with several media outlets in Washington, Donald Trump assured that the 2026 World Cup “will be one of the greatest events in the history of sport”.
