The White House’s “TRUMP TV” platform begins broadcasting

The White House platform, TRUMP TV, began broadcasting on Monday with an old speech by U.S. President Donald Trump, while major U.S. television networks have suspended their joint coverage of his events in protest of the ban imposed on CNN, MSNBC, and Politico—three media outlets that the president accuses of providing unfavorable coverage of his administration.

The channel began broadcasting at 7:00 p.m. local time (11:00 p.m. GMT) and opened its programming with the speech Trump delivered on July 3 at Mount Rushmore during the celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence.

In that speech, the president stated that “America will never be a communist country” and called on his supporters to defend what he defined as the American identity and character.

The decision to hold an event nearly three months ago turned the platform’s launch into a direct alternative to traditional media coverage, rather than simply a broadcast of another presidential event.

The premiere took place on the same day that ABC, CBS, Fox News, and NBC—the other members of the White Housepress pool —suspended their participation after the White Houseprevented CNN, which was scheduled to cover the event, from doing so.

The decision came after the White House barred CNN, MS NOW, and Politico from the premises, following a lawsuit filed by those three media outlets against Trump and senior officials in his administration, arguing that the ban violates their constitutional rights.

The dispute comes as the president is in New York to participate in the high-level week of the United Nations General Assembly, where he is scheduled to speak on Tuesday, according to Agencia EFE.
