Midfielders Marcel Ruiz, of Toluca, and Diego Lainez, of Tigres UANL, stood out on Tuesday in the list of 55 called-up players for the Mexican National Team announced by coach Javier ‘Vasco’ Aguirre for the 2026 World Cup.

This list will be reduced to the 26 that will attend the tournament no later than June 1.

Marcel Ruiz is one of the surprises.

After it appeared that he would be sidelined by the partial rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament he suffered last March.

He decided not to undergo surgery and opted for a conservative treatment in order to have the opportunity to attend the World Cup.

In the case of Diego Lainez, who had been left off Aguirre’s previous call-ups for alleged indiscipline, he appeared on this list of 55 players.

Hirving Lozano, a player who is out of MLS San Diego, has no chance of going to the World Cup after being left out of the Mexican National Team’s pre-list.

This list will be reduced to 26
