San Antonio is celebrating and the basketball world is at its feet. In a Game 7 that will go down in the golden books, the Spurs defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder 111-103, dethroning the reigning champions and securing their return to the NBA Finals for the first time since 2014.

The absolute protagonist: a Victor Wembanyama who, in tears and with the West MVP trophy in his arms, confirmed that the era of the “Alien” has officially begun.

Wembanyama: From fouls to tears of glory

It wasn’t an easy road. “Wemby” had to battle not only OKC’s defense, but foul trouble that kept him on the edge.

Even so, the Frenchman scored 22 points and grabbed 7 rebounds, leading a squad of seven players in double figures.

At the final buzzer, the image of the French giant bursting into tears moved everyone: the pressure of a comeback (they were 2-3 in the series) was finally released in pure jubilation.

A bench made of steel and a rain of three-pointers

While Shai Gilgeous-Alexander tried to carry the world on his shoulders with 35 points, the Spurs responded with collective play.

Julian Champagnie was unbeatable from beyond the arc with 6 three-pointers, while rookie sensation Stephon Castle and veteran De’Aaron Fox kept the pulse as the Thunder’s gas began to run low.

The key was the third quarter, where San Antonio stepped on the gas with a 16-2 run that stunned the champions.

Although OKC tried one last gasp from Cason Wallace, a missed three-pointer by SGA in the final seconds sealed the scepter’s fate.

Rendezvous with history: Spurs vs. Knicks

Destiny gives us a dream final.

San Antonio will be looking for its sixth ring against the New York Knicks, who promise to turn Madison Square Garden into a cauldron.

It is the clash of two historic markets, two styles and, above all, Wembanyama’ s chance to seal his legendary status in just his second season.
