Colombian singer Charlie Zaa, known for his boleros, faces an investigation for alleged links to the paramilitary group Bloque Tolima of the United Self-Defense Forces of Colombia (AUC).
The Attorney General’s Office has requested precautionary measures on the artist’s assets, valued at more than 25 billion Colombian pesos, including properties such as the Oasis shopping center in Girardot and the Kapachos and Solaris nightclubs in Ibagué.
Charlie Zaa’s response

The accusations are based on testimony from former paramilitaries who claim that Zaa acted as a front man for paramilitary commander Daniel Goyeneche, alias “Daniel”.
According to these testimonies, the aforementioned properties were allegedly used for illicit activities related to the armed group.
In response to these accusations, Charlie Zaa issued an official statement in which he denies any links to criminal organizations and affirms that his wealth is the result of more than 30 years of artistic career.
Will cooperate with the authorities

The singer expressed his willingness to cooperate with the authorities and to provide all the necessary evidence to prove his innocence.
Zaa also called on the media to report correctly on the case, clarifying that the investigation is focused on assets of his family patrimony and not directly on his person.
He also invoked his constitutional right to the presumption of innocence and announced that he will continue with his professional commitments while the judicial process unfolds.
Legal implications and next steps

The Prosecutor’s Office has imposed precautionary measures of seizure, sequestration and suspension on Zaa’s assets, while their origin and possible links to illicit activities are being determined.
If it is proven that the assets were acquired with illegal resources, they would be transferred to the Colombian State to compensate the victims of the armed conflict.
So far, no formal summons has been issued for Charlie Zaa, although it is expected that he will be summoned to testify in the next few days as part of the preliminary proceedings.
The case continues to develop, and the authorities are working on the verification of documents, financial movements and other evidence that may shed light on the degree of the artist’s participation in the administration of assets linked to the AUC.
