On Wednesday, August 13, 2025, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) pulled off a spectacular comeback to lift their first European Super Cup.
The duel against Tottenham Hotspur of England, played at the Stadio Friuli in Udine (Italy), ended 2-2 after 90 minutes and was resolved 4-3 in a penalty shootout, consolidating the French team as a historic continental power.
Drama brews at the close

Tottenham struck first in this European Super Cup:
Micky van de Ven scored at 39′ after a rebound, and Cristian Romero extended the lead with a header at 48′.
But PSG did not give up: in the 85th minute, Lee Kang-in pulled one back with a powerful shot.
In the 90+4th minute, when everyone took Tottenham’s victory for granted, Gonçalo Ramos scored the equalizer with an accurate header from Dembélé’s cross.
Penalties, glory and resilience

The shootout seemed to be leaning towards the English after misses by Mathys Tel and Micky van de Ven, but goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier made a key save.
In the end, Nuno Mendes took the decisive penalty that gave PSG the title.
Coach Luis Enrique highlighted his team’s mental strength:
“We overcame an adverse scenario.”

Boost for the new season

PSG’s win comes after a glorious season, including a 5-0 thrashing of Inter Milan to win the Champions League.
It also boosts their confidence going into the 2025-26 season, even without Mbappé, and reinforces the idea that Luis Enrique’s project continues to consolidate.
Tottenham, for their part, are left with the bitter taste of letting a solid lead slip away, but their performance under new coach Thomas Frank leaves glimmers of optimism for their season.
