U.S. President Donald Trump wished Taylor Swift and American soccer player Travis Kelce well Tuesday, shortly after they announced their engagement, and said the singer is “a fantastic person.”
“I wish them the best of luck. I think he’s a great player. I think he’s a great guy and I think she’s a fantastic person, so I wish them a lot of luck,” Trump said when asked by reporters during his seventh Cabinet meeting.
The mandarin was asked just minutes after Swift and Kelce announced in a post on Instagram their engagement, after being together since 2023.
“Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” the singer wrote.
Trump’s surprising words for Taylor Swift

This statement by the president came as a surprise because he himself has written on his social network Truth Social on several occasions that he hates Swift.
“I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!” she shared in September last year.
Without going any further, the last time was earlier this month, when she claimed that, since he made comments about her in that sense, the singer stopped being fashionable.
“Has anyone noticed that since I said ‘I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT’, she is no longer ‘POPULAR’?” he wrote.
Trump’s rejection of Swift comes in the wake of a publication by the singer in support of former Democratic vice president Kamala Harris, who was the rival of the now-president in the November elections last 2024.
The president, who shortly before had said she was “unusually beautiful” but “liberal,” shared fake images in which he made it look like the singer and her fans were supporting him in the race for the White House.
However, Swift claimed that these were images generated by artificial intelligence and that seemed to trigger the president’s animosity.
The engagement news comes on the heels of the announcement of her upcoming studio album, ‘The Life of a Showgirl’, which will be released on October 3 and is inspired by her behind-the-scenes life during her ‘The Eras Tour’ world tour.
