Pixar’s ‘Hoppers’ leads the box office for another weekend with $28.5 million, $164.7 million worldwide, followed by ‘Reminders of him’, which in its first three days of release totals $18.2 million locally and a global total of 28.1.
Directed by Daniel Chong, ‘Hoppers’ tells the story of a 19-year-old girl who infiltrates the animal world using the body of a beaver to protect its habitat.
Hoppers’ leads box office
The box office figures it has had since its premiere, last March 6, position the new Pixar film as one of the best debuts for an animated film since ‘Coco’ (2017).
Meanwhile, ‘Reminders of him’, directed by Vanessa Caswill and based on the novel of the same name by Colleen Hoover, tells the story of Kenna, a woman who after being released from prison tries to reconnect with her daughter, but faces resistance from everyone.
The third place is occupied this week by another premiere, the horror film ‘Undertone’, which grossed $9.3 million, slightly exceeding expectations, according to data published by the specialized website Box Office Mojo.
Fourth place went to Paramount’s ‘Scream 7’ with 8.4 million at the local box office in its third week on the road.
The seventh installment of the horror franchise surpassed the $100 million mark a fortnight after its release last Friday. The film’s total now stands at $176.9 million.
Sony Pictures Animation’s ‘GOAT’ closes out the top five with $4.7 million and a global total of $162.8 million.
The success of ‘Hoppers’ is not only measured in tickets, but in the solid critical reception, which has praised the vision of Daniel Chong (creator of Scandalous) for refreshing the Pixar formula with a mix of physical humor and a profound environmentalist message.
The plot, which explores identity and connection to nature through the use of brain technology to “inhabit” animals, has managed to connect with an intergenerational audience, a milestone the studio had not reached with such forcefulness since ‘Coco’ in 2017.
With an estimated budget of $175 million, the film has already recouped almost all of its initial investment in just ten days, establishing itself as the spearhead of original animation in 2026.
