Japan’s Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees were announced Thursday as the winners of the Most Valuable Player award for the 2025 Major League Baseball season.
Ohtani, in the National League, and Judge, in the American League, were announced at the MLB 2025 Awards gala in Las Vegas. Both winners, who earned these honors for the second consecutive year, were chosen in voting by members of the Baseball Writers’ Association of North America (BBWAA).
Ohtani dominates as a hitter and pitcher

Ohtani, who won unanimously, edged out Kyle Schwarber of the Philadelphia Phillies and Dominican Juan Soto of the New York Mets in the voting.
For Ohtani, this is the fourth player of the season award he has won.
It surpasses, in the history of the Major Leagues, the seven conquered by Barry Bonds.
The reigning World Series champion once again showed his qualities as a hitter and pitcher.
This is his first season doing both with the Dodgers.
Offensively, Ohtani led the National League in runs scored (144) and was second in home runs (55).
He was also fifth in hits (172) and sixth in runs batted in (102) in 158 games.
As a pitcher, Ohtani made 14 starts in which he accumulated a 1-1 record and a 2.87 ERA.
As a result, he allowed 15 clean runs in 47 innings, in which he struck out 62 times.
Judge signs another legendary season

Judge, who won the award for the third time in his career, beat out the Seattle Mariners’ Cal Raleigh in the voting.
As well as the Dominican Jose Ramirez, of the Cleveland Rangers.
The Yankee captain led all Major Leaguers in batting average (.331).
Also in fielding percentage (.457), slugging (.688) and intentional bases on balls (36).
He was the best in the American League in runs scored (137), bases reached (372), bases on balls (124) and extra-bases (85), according to MLB data.
Judge, who hit 53 home runs last season, joined Babe Ruth (1920, 1921, 1921, 1927, 1928), Mark McGwire (1996-1999) and Dominican Sammy Sosa (1998-2001).
They are the only players with four 50 home run campaigns in the Major Leagues.
“The Judge” also produced 114 RBIs to be the centerpiece of the Yankees’ offense, which he helped reach the postseason again.
