The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reported this September 23, 2025 that, in less than 250 days of President Donald Trump’s new administration, more than two million undocumented migrants have left the United States, either by deportation or of their own free will.

According to the agency, approximately 1.6 million people voluntarily self-deported and more than 400,000 were deported by immigration authorities. These data come from internal records and US Citizenship and ImmigrationServices (USCIS) estimates.

One of the most controversial elements is the transformation of the CBP Home mobile application.

Created during the Joe Biden administration to facilitate asylum applications.

With the arrival of Trump, the platform was reconverted into a “self-deportation” tool, in which undocumented migrants can notify the government of their willingness to leave the country.

A DHS spokesperson noted in an email that “tens of thousands of illegal aliens have used the app” since it went live for its new purpose.

In parallel, Trump took the opportunity to comment on the political situation in Brazil, criticizing sanctions and tariffs.

Although he later softened his message by announcing an upcoming meeting with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

The GOP also introduced a proposal to modify the H-1B visa selection process to prioritize higher-skilled, higher-wage workers.

The initiative comes alongside the idea of imposing a $100,000 fee for each visa application, which could severely limit access for highly specialized companies and migrants.

The measure seeks, according to the White House, to protect U.S. workers from unfair wage competition.

However, several technology companies warned their employees with visas to stay in the U.S. or return immediately.

Generating an atmosphere of uncertainty and hasty decisions to avoid losing legal status.
