Mexico’s National Team confirmed a friendly match against Ghana as part of its preparation for the World Cup. The match will be played on May 22, 2026 at the Cuauhtémoc Stadium in Puebla, one of the team’s last tests before its World Cup debut.
This match is part of the schedule prior to the international tournament, where Mexico seeks to fine-tune tactical and competitive details against opponents with different styles. In this case, Ghana represents an African opponent with physical and playing characteristics that may be similar to the challenges El Tri will face in the group stage.
Why is Ghana an important rival?

The coaching staff headed by Javier “Vasco” Aguirre has prioritized facing teams with similar profiles to their World Cup opponents.
In this context, Ghana will be a demanding test for Mexico due to their speed, intensity and physical strength.
This type of match not only allows us to evaluate the team’s performance, but also to define call-ups, tactical schemes and roles within the squad.
For Hispanic fans in the United States, these matches are key to keeping a close eye on El Tri’s progress and anticipating their performance in the most important international soccer tournament.
