Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum said Tuesday that the country is willing to host Iran’s 2026 World Cup matches, given the team’s difficulties to play in the United States, a possibility that FIFA is analyzing, which she considers “feasible”.
“They are looking into it with FIFA. Yes, it is feasible, because (the Iranians) were going to go to the United States, they can hold the tournament here in Mexico. We are looking into it and we will inform you when the time comes,” said the President during her morning press conference.
Decision remains in the hands of FIFA

The Mexican president’s reaction comes after the Iranian Football Federation started negotiations to move the 2026 World Cup Group G matches to Mexican territory.
This is due to problems with visa issuance and logistical support from the U.S. Government.
According to the Iranian embassy in Mexico, the Iranian sports authorities have requested FIFA’s intervention to guarantee their participation in the 2026 World Cup, proposing Mexico as an alternative venue.
Sheinbaum stressed that the final decision will depend on the international soccer governing body.
Mexico has a relationship with all the countries in the world,” Buzzy said. So, we are going to see what FIFA establishes and from there we will be informed,” he said.
Political tension casts doubt on Iranian parties in the U.S.

The possibility arises amid political and security tensions.
This after U.S. President Donald Trump recently declared that the Iranian team is “welcome” to the World Cup.
But he suggested that it not participate “for its own safety”, following the worsening conflict in the Middle East.
For their part, Iranian authorities have warned that there are no conditions to compete in the United States, following the military escalation in the region and the administrative restrictions that, according to them, their national team is facing.
Let's see what FIFA decides

Iran is in Group G of the 2026 World Cup along with Belgium, Egypt and New Zealand.
It has scheduled its initial meetings in U.S. cities such as Inglewood (California) and Seattle (Washington).
Mexico will be one of the host countries of the 2026 World Cup, along with the United States and Canada, so an eventual relocation of matches from Iran would depend on logistical and political agreements between the organizers and FIFA.
