Uruguayan striker Luis Suárez renewed his contract with Inter Miami until the end of next season on Wednesday, December 17, after a year in which the team won theMLS Cup.
“The striker’s vast experience and leadership were crucial to Inter Miami’s third and fourth titles by winning the Eastern Conference Championship and MLS Cup,” the Miami club highlighted in a statement.
Solid numbers and less prominence

Luis Suarez’s contract with the club was due to expire at the end of 2025 and Inter Miami had announced that it was negotiating an extension.
The 38-year-old Uruguayan made 50 appearances in all competitions in 2025 in which he scored 17 goals and dished out 17 assists, according to Inter Miami data.
He began last season as a permanent fixture up front alongside Lionel Messi.
But he lost prominence during the playoffs, where he started from the bench in the last three games, including the final.
A recent history of controversial episodes

In addition to physical problems, Luis Suarez has missed several games in the last year due to his behavior.
In August, he was suspended nine games after spitting at a member of the Seattle Sounders coaching staff following Inter Miami’s loss in the Leagues Cup final.
He also missed a playoff game in November for kicking an opposing defender in the previous game.
The Uruguayan striker joined Inter Miami in 2024 after his time with Brazilian club Gremio.
In two seasons with the team, he has scored 42 goals.
His renewal follows the signing of Spanish left-back Sergio Reguilón, announced this week by Inter Miami.
