Inter Miami assistant coach Javier Morales said Tuesday that he is confident Lionel Messi can make tomorrow’s squad for the Leagues Cup semifinal match against Orlando City after the physical discomfort that caused him to miss the last two games.

“We want him to be in the squad and tomorrow we will make a decision,” Morales said at the pre-match press conference, during which he will replace Javier Mascherano, who was sent off in the quarter-final of the tournament against Tigres.

The assistant reported that Messi completed training with the group today, so he imagined that he could at least be called up for the match.

The Albiceleste’s ’10’ suffered a right leg injury on August 2 in the Leagues Cup match against Necaxa, and has missed four games since then.

Although Messi made his return on August 17 against the Los Angeles Galaxy, he suffered a slight relapse that has kept him out of action since then.

Another player in doubt for the match is Spain’s Jordi Alba, whom Morales also said had trained with the group today.

The fullback left the match against Tigres with a knee injury and was out of last weekend’s MLS match against D.C. United, which ended in a draw.

Inter Miami hosts Orlando City tomorrow for a place in the final of the Leagues Cup, the tournament that pits MLS and Liga MX teams against each other.

Inter Miami lifted this title in 2023, the first in its short history, which came just weeks after Messi’s signing, according to information from EFE.
