A Texas man pleaded guilty to threatening U.S. President Donald Trump in a Facebook comment before the president made a visit to the state last July, the Justice Department said.
Robert Herrera, 52, shared a threatening message in a July 10 post on the KSTA television station’s Facebook page about the president’s visit to a Texas mountain region.
Herrera wrote “I will not fail,” along with a photo of President Donald Trump surrounded by U.S. Secret Service agents minutes after the July 13, 2024 assassination attempt in Butler, Pennsylvania, according to the indictment.
Another Facebook user responded to Herrera: “You won’t get the chance, I promise.”
Instead of stopping, Herrera responded to the user: “I’m coming for you. Along with that last statement, Herrera posted a photo of an assault rifle and magazines, the U.S. Department of Justice said in a statement.
The man was arrested on July 11 in Bexar County, where he resides.
Herrera pleaded guilty to one count of threatening the U.S. president and faces up to five years in prison and a maximum fine of $250,000, EFE reported.
