What began as a harrowing search last January 31 in Mobile County, Alabama, has ended in the worst of nightmares for the Choc Cac family.
After weeks of uncertainty, forensic authorities and DNA tests have confirmed that the three bodies found in a wooded area of Baldwin County belong to Aurelia Choc Cac, 40, and her two children: Niurka, a 17-year-old teenager, and little Anthony, just 2 years old.

The reconstruction of the events is heartbreaking.
According to official reports, the family was killed inside their own home.
Although no signs of forced entry were found, investigators found evidence of a violent struggle and traces of blood throughout the house.
Subsequently, the bodies were moved and abandoned in the forest where they were finally located.
New forensic details reveal that all three victims were stabbed, an act of cruelty that has shocked the Hispanic community in the United States and Guatemala.

Authorities have arrested Hector Guerra, who faces more than ten criminal charges, including capital murder, abuse of corpse and obstruction of justice.
So far, the suspect is being held without bail and has refused to cooperate with justice, maintaining a silence that only increases the pain of the survivors.
A cry for help from loneliness

In the midst of this tragedy, two of Aurelia’s daughters have been left alone in the United States, facing a grief that no one should have to live through at their age.
In addition to the irreparable void, they bear an overwhelming financial responsibility: they need to raise more than $20,000 for funeral expenses and repatriation of the bodies to their homeland in Guatemala.
“We are alone and we just want to give them a dignified farewell with our family at home,” the young women told the international media.
Therefore, a GoFundMe campaign has been launched with an urgent and humane purpose.
The cost of international paperwork and funeral services is unaffordable for them at this time.
Every contribution, no matter how small, or simply sharing this note, is an act of empathy so that Aurelia, Niurka and little Anthony can rest in peace in their country.
