Former British singer Gary Glitter, who is serving a prison sentence for several child sexual abuse offenses, was charged Thursday with four new counts involving a minor, allegedly committed between 1978 and 1981, according to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) for England and Wales.
The artist, who is 82 years old and whose real name is Paul Gadd, is charged with one count of having unlawful sexual relations with a girl under the age of 13 and three counts of indecent assault on a girl under the age of 14, according to the CPS.
Deputy Chief Prosecutor Bethan David stated that the charges stem from a complaint filed by a single woman “regarding an alleged period of abuse that is said to have taken place between 1978 and 1981.”
“Our prosecutors have worked to determine that there is sufficient evidence to bring this case to court and that doing so is in the public interest,” he said.
For its part, the London Metropolitan Police (Met) stated that it received the complaint on January 9, 2025, and that the former “glam rock” star was questioned on July 22 of last year as part of the investigation.
“The victim is currently receiving support from specialized officers,” the Met explained.
Glitter has been serving a 16-year prison sentence since 2015 for sexual offenses against three minors. After being released on parole in 2023, he was returned to prison weeks later for violating the terms of his parole and remains incarcerated at Channings Wood Prison in the English county of Devon.
He had previously served prison sentences in Vietnam for sexually abusing two girls and in the United Kingdom for possessing images of child sexual abuse.
The musician, who was very famous between the 1970s and 1990s, is expected to appear in a London court on August 5, according to Agencia EFE.
