British musician Elton John will return to Mexico City after 14 years to perform two farewell concerts on October 2 and 3 at Banorte Stadium, AEG Presents, Cardenas Marketing Network, and Enso Music announced Tuesday.

The artist’s return—he is considered one of the most influential musicians in history—aims to make up for missed shows with Latin American audiences following the cancellation of performances during his farewell tour due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Mexico City has always held a special place in my heart,” Elton John said in the statement.

“I was very disappointed that the pandemic prevented me from touring Latin America during my farewell tour, which makes this return especially meaningful,” he added.

The 79-year-old artist performed for the first time at Azteca Stadium 34 years ago, during “The One” tour. His most recent concerts in Mexico City were in 2012, with two special “Elton & Ray Cooper” performances at the National Auditorium.

The Banorte presale will take place on July 13 at 12:00 p.m. local time (6:00 p.m. GMT), while Rocket Club members will have access to a presale on July 15. General ticket sales will begin on July 16 at noon via Superboletos.

Tickets will range in price from 990 to 16,000 Mexican pesos (56.57 to 914 dollars), plus service fees. There will also be a limited number of VIP packages, which may include premium seating, access to hospitality services, and the opportunity to take a photo next to Elton John’s piano.

With a career spanning more than five decades, Elton John has sold more than 327 million albums, had more than 85 songs reach the Top 40, and received six Grammy Awards, two Oscars, one Tony, and one Emmy, the latter in 2024, which earned him EGOT status—reserved for winners of all four major American entertainment awards.

His “Farewell Yellow Brick Road” tour, which began in 2018, marked his retirement from the stage after more than 4,600 concerts in over 80 countries, according to Agencia EFE.
