Dallas Cowboys fail again: Another season to forget

Sporting failure, economic success

The 2025 NFL season confirmed another frustrating chapter for the Dallas Cowboys, one of the most popular teams followed by the Hispanic community in the United States. After the Philadelphia Eagles’ 29-18 victory over the Washington Commanders, the Texans were officially eliminated from any possibility of qualifying for the Playoffs, even before their Week 16 game.

The Cowboys already depended on multiple unlikely combinations to advance to the postseason, but Philadelphia’s victory gave them the NFC East divisional title, leaving Dallas without mathematical options. Thus, the game against the Los Angeles Chargers became a mere formality, with no real sporting aspirations.

With this elimination, the Dallas Cowboys will have gone 30 years without winning a Super Bowl.

A drought that contrasts sharply with the team’s history and overall brand.

Their last championship came in January 1996, when they beat the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XXX.

Since then, the franchise has not only been unable to lift the Vince Lombardi Trophy again, but has not even played in a Conference Final in that span.

For an organization that calls itself “America’s Team,” the sporting record is especially hard on its fans.

Disappointing results in Playoffs

In these three decades without titles, the Dallas Cowboys have not qualified for the Playoffs in 17 seasons.

On 13 occasions they did advance to the postseason, albeit with very limited results.

Of those appearances:
6 times he was eliminated in the Wild Card Round
7 times he fell in the Divisional Round, even when he was division champion

A recent example occurred in 2023, when the Cowboys were eliminated by the Green Bay Packers, getting knocked out in their first game despite high expectations.

Financial success not reflected in the field

Despite constant sporting failures, the Jerry Jones-owned team maintains enormous economic power.

For more than a decade, the Cowboys have been considered the most valuable sports franchise in the world, with an estimated value exceeding $12 billion in 2025.

This contrast between financial success and sporting poverty continues to be one of the most debated topics among analysts and fans.

Dallas’ elimination also confirmed that the Philadelphia Eagles retained the NFC East title, breaking a curious streak:

For 20 consecutive years, no team had repeated as divisional champion in that conference.
