The dream of a stadium of Cruz Azul’s own in 2026 has regained momentum following recent statements made by Víctor Velázquez, president of the club and of the La Cruz Azul Cooperative. The executive confirmed that the project is no longer just an idea for the future, but an initiative that is currently in the analysis and land search phase in Mexico City.

During his remarks, Velázquez explained that the institution is already reviewing different options to develop a building that will finally allow the Cementero team to have a permanent home, after years of playing home games in different stadiums.

“It is an illusion that we already have to start our stadium. We saw land options to be able to do it.”

Velázquez stated, making it clear that the board is already analyzing real scenarios to materialize one of the most important projects in the club’s recent history.

Although there is still no official date for the start of construction or for the inauguration of the new Cruz Azul stadium, the director acknowledged that the intention is to move forward over the next few years to make it a reality.

The board also confirmed that government support will be essential.

Especially on issues related to permitting, urban mobility, road impact and neighborhood approval.

“A project of this size always needs government support.”
