Sergio “Checo” Pérez has taken one of the most important steps of his career towards the Formula 1 of the future. The Mexican driver joined the Cadillac F1 Team project, which will officially debut in the 2026 season under the new FIA technical regulations. For the Hispanic community in the United States, this announcement represents a source of pride: a Latino driver leading the birth of a U.S. team with global ambitions.
During a presentation in Guadalajara, Checo Pérez stated that this is “my last great project in Formula 1”, making it clear that he is committed to building a new team from scratch and contributing his experience at the highest level. At 35 years of age and with more than a decade in the elite, his role will be fundamental to build the sporting structure that Cadillac needs to compete with the top teams.
Testing of Ferrari equipment begins
To accelerate its learning curve, Cadillac initiated a testing program using a chassis provided by Ferrari.
This is so that both the technical team and the drivers understand the actual operating dynamics of a modern F1 car.
In 2025, Checo Pérez and Valtteri Bottas, the duo confirmed for the debut, will conduct track and simulator tests that will allow them to develop fundamental processes:
Telemetry
Tire management
Engineer-driver communication
Race simulations
According to the project’s directors, this work is “essential” to avoid the mistakes that debut teams make in their first season.
