The film world is in mourning following the death of actor Sam Neill, who passed away last Monday at the age of 78 in Sydney, Australia. After various reports began circulating about his health and the causes of his death, his representative decided to issue a statement to clarify the information and put an end to the speculation.

Philip Grenz, who worked for years with the renowned actor, explained that Neill died of pneumonia. He also expressed regret that, after the news broke, various media outlets published inaccurate reports about the actor’s final months.

“Since Sam Neill’s passing, numerous stories containing errors and completely false claims have been circulating,” said the representative, who added that the family wanted to provide accurate information to reassure the actor’s fans.

Grenz also recalled that before contracting pneumonia, Sam Neill faced one of the toughest battles of his life: a rare and aggressive form of lymphoma.

The actor managed to overcome the disease thanks to an innovative immunotherapy treatment known as CAR-T therapy, a procedure that eliminated the cancer after several cycles of chemotherapy and immunotherapy.

Months before his death, Neill had publicly announced that he no longer showed any signs of the disease, news that was enthusiastically received by his fans around the world.

However, the treatments also left significant aftereffects on his body, considerably weakening his immune system and making him more vulnerable to serious infections.

Australian journalist Laura Tingle, who had been in a relationship with the actor in the past, confirmed that Sam Neill remained hospitalized at St. Vincent’s Private Hospital in Sydney due to pneumonia, which ultimately claimed his life.

During an interview with ABC Radio Sydney, Tingle explained that the actor had been in critical condition for several weeks and that family members, friends, and those close to him remained hopeful that he would recover.

He also noted that, although the cancer had been brought under control, the medical treatments seriously compromised his natural defenses, a situation that made him more susceptible to respiratory complications.

In the same statement, Philip Grenz revealed that Sam Neill’s family will honor one of the actor’s greatest wishes: to say goodbye quietly and away from the media spotlight.

For this reason, there will be no public ceremony. Instead, his loved ones will hold a private memorial service at his farm in New Zealand on a date to be determined later.

The representative also asked that the family’s privacy be respected during this time of mourning, noting that Neill had always been a private person who avoided the spotlight offstage.
