After going through a difficult period in which he temporarily left television, Carlos Calderón is now living a different moment: he returned to the camera, reconnected with the public that has followed him for years and, according to his own words, found a place where he can show himself as he is.
She is currently part of Hoy Día, a space where she claims to have found her balance and an environment that allows her to work in her own style. However, this present -more stable and coherent with his personality- was not always so. In an emotional conversation, the host recalled that there were periods in his career marked by professional tensions and editorial proposals with which he did not identify.
In an interview with Maity Interiano, whom he described as a colleague from previous years at Univision, Calderón spoke of a time when several producers pressured him to adopt a tone that he considered alien to his principles. He recounted that he was asked to be harsher with interviewees, to look for the negative and push the content towards the controversial.
“For many years, I faced many producers who told me that I had to be incisive, even aggressive with the interviewees, to look for the bad news, to be a scathing, yellow, and I didn’t want to, I flatly refused,” he shared. He added that they were spaces with an inclination towards that type of journalism, but he did not want to build his career from there.
Despite these suggestions, Calderón explained that he decided to listen to his instinct and remain firm in his way of communicating, even when it could jeopardize his job stability. Instead of falling into confrontation or offense, he decided to opt for a different tone: one that prioritized the positive.
The way he describes it is clear: when he was given a space, he tried to fill it with a different approach than the one some people proposed. “They would open up the space for me and I would fill it with light and positivity, with nice things, with laughter and smiles for people,” he said, admitting that, for that very reason, at certain times “they would take it against him,” that is, he would encounter resistance for not fitting the mold.
Carlos Calderón: A recognition that marked the end of that stage

Within that recounting, Calderón pointed out that the day that pressure ended coincided with an important recognition in his career. “And the day that that ended was the day I got that Emmy for Best Correspondent,” he mentioned, presenting it as a turning point: a symbol that staying true to his style was not only possible, but could also be valued.
With the passage of time, he assures that the dynamic changed completely. According to him, today he enjoys a freedom that he did not have before: “They have never said anything to me again. Now they let me do whatever I want on television,” he said. For him, this autonomy works as a personal and professional reward for having remained faithful to what he considers his mission since he started in the media: to bring positive energy.
“For me it’s an award that I was faithful to believing that my mission with which I started doing television was to bring positive energy to people. That was my essence,” he concluded, reinforcing the idea that his greatest achievement has been to sustain his identity in the face of external pressures.
According to Calderón himself, that choice – to bet on light, good humor and a friendly tone – is the formula with which he conquered and continues to conquer his audience, who are happy to see him every morning on Telemundo’s Hoy Día.
