Not all families in Sacramento automatically qualify. Eligibility criteria include:
Residing in zip codes 95815, 95821, 95823, 95825, 95828 or 95838.
Have at least one child under the age of five living in the home at least 50% of the time.
Demonstrate family income below 200% of the federal poverty level (approximately $62,400 annually for a family of four).
Not receiving guaranteed income from another similar program at the same time.
Participant selection was random, although in some cases African American, American Indian or Alaska Native families were prioritized as part of the plan’s equity focus.
In total, 200 families were selected for this first phase, making the program a pilot that could serve as a model for other California counties and even nationally.
Schedule and payment method
The process began in the spring of 2025.
Notifications to the selected families were sent between April and May.
The first payment was made on June 15 and the second payment was made on August 15.
The $725 checks in California will continue to be delivered on a monthly basis through mid-2026.
Beneficiaries can receive the money by direct deposit, debit card or physical check, depending on the information they provided during the selection process.
This fixed calendar provides the possibility of planning expenses, which is essential for families facing debts or who must cover basic services on a monthly basis.
