Rookie Trey Yesavage had a dominant outing, while Davis Schneider and Dominican Vladimir Guerrero Jr. knocked the ball out of the park in the opener to help the Toronto Blue Jays defeat the Los Angeles Dodgers 1-6 on Wednesday and move within one win of clinching the Major League World Series.
With the win in the fifth game, the Blue Jays are ahead 3-2 and will have the opportunity to be crowned champions this Friday when they play the sixth game of this Fall Classic at the Roger Centre in Toronto.
Yesavage shines and brings Toronto closer to the title

Trey Yesavage (1-0) set a mark for a rookie by striking out 12 batters in a World Series game in his seven-inning effort.
He allowed only three hits and one run to earn the win for the Blue Jays.
With his home run on Wednesday, Guerrero Jr. hit his second homer in the World Series and his eighth in this postseason.
A record that leaves him tied with Japan’s Shohei Ohtani for the highest total of four-corner hits in these playoffs.
In the game, the Blue Jays wasted no time and attacked with power in the very first inning.
Davis Schneider homered on the first pitch of the game by Blake Snell, who started for the Dodgers (2-3).
Latin power shakes up the start of the game

The Blue Jays’ offense continued in that first chapter when Dominican Vladimir Guerrero Jr. detonated his bat against Snell’s third pitching in the game.
He sent the ball into the left field bleachers at Dodgers Stadium in Los Angeles, giving the visitors the second run of the inning.
With these homers, Schneider and Guerrero Jr. became the first players to hit back-to-back home runs to start a World Series game.
The home side got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third thanks to a solo home run by Puerto Rican Kiké Hernández.
He was able to connect on a straight drive from Yesavage, sending the ball beyond the outfield boundary.
Extending their lead with constant attack

The Blue Jays responded by scoring a run in the top of the fourth when Daulton Varsho hit a triple into the right field zone and scored on Ernie Clement’s sacrifice fly to center field.
John Schneider’s men came back in the seventh inning with two runs scored:
The first was an uncontrolled pitching error by Venezuelan reliever Edgardo Henriquez while facing Guerrero Jr. that allowed Addison Barger to score from the leadoff spot.
Toronto’s fifth run was towed in by Bo Bichette, with a single to right field, which pushed Clement all the way to the register.
Dominguez and Hoffman secure the win

The Blue Jays put one more run on the board in the eighth on Isiah Kiner-Falefa’s hit off Mexican reliever Anthony Banda.
Dominican Seranthony Dominguez and Jeff Hoffman pitched the final two innings to complete the job for the Blue Jays’ pitching.
Snell (0-2) stayed on the mound for 6.2 innings, in which he struck out six times and was walked five times.
He struck out seven times and ended up taking the loss for the Dodgers.
