Six years after the death of José José José, the remembered Prince of Song, his eldest son, José Joel, has reignited the debate about the circumstances surrounding the last days of the singer’s life.

During an interview broadcast by the program Sale el Sol, the singer and actor also hinted at the possibility that his father may have been the victim of a rat poisoning while under the care of his youngest daughter, Sara Sosa, in Miami.

These statements revive one of the most controversial theories that arose after the death of the Mexican idol on September 28, 2019, which occurred in a Florida hospital, when the artist was 71 years old and facing a pancreatic cancer that was already in advanced stage.

In the interview, Jose Joel, 48, said he cannot rule out that his father may have been a victim of neglect or even something more serious during his stay in the United States under Sarita’s care.

“How many and many things and adverse situations my father could have gone through before he came (to Miami) and after he was taken away again. And yes, suddenly I heard that there was a situation of rat poison that they were giving him,” commented José Joel, with a cautious tone but hinting at his suspicions.

The singer’s eldest son recalled that the deterioration of José José’s health accelerated after his move from Mexico to Miami in 2018, which fueled concern and doubts in his family about the care he was receiving.

This is not the first time that suspicions of poisoning have been mentioned. A few months after the singer’s death, Paulina Mondragón, a close friend, publicly declared that the singer confessed to her that, during a medical examination in Mexico, a type of poison had been detected in his blood.

According to Mondragon, the singer expressed his desire to return to Miami to file for divorce from Sara Salazar, his wife, with the intention of avoiding legal action in exchange for an amicable separation. However, that plan was thwarted when Sara Sosa, the youngest daughter, traveled to Mexico and convinced the singer to return to Miami, where his health deteriorated rapidly until his death.

When questioned about the possible responsibility of Sarita or her mother, José Joel responded cautiously:

“We don’t know if the lady or the girl, as they are called the same way, no way, they are the Saras. A series of very lurid situations that suddenly could have happened. I can’t say for sure, but I think so”.

These words reflect the climate of mistrust and family conflicts that became public in the last years of José José’s life, especially between his older children, José Joel and Marysol Sosa, and his youngest daughter, Sarita.

The death of the singer, one of the most iconic voices of Spanish-language romantic music, was surrounded by media and family controversy. In addition to the rumors of poisoning, the decisions about the place where he would receive medical attention, the reports about his health condition and the final destination of his remains were questioned.

Almost six years after his departure, these statements by the musician reopen the wounds and keep alive the perception that there were irregularities in the last days of the singer’s life.

Until conclusive evidence is presented to support these suspicions, the issue remains one of the most talked-about controversies surrounding the singer’s legacy.

The case of the Prince of Song continues to generate interest among fans and the media. For many, José José not only left a vast musical legacy, with hits such as El Triste y Gavilán and Paloma, but also a story marked by family drama and mystery surrounding his final years.

Recent statements by the son of ‘The Prince of Song’ show that the chapter on his father’s death is far from closed and that, despite the passage of time, the questions continue to outweigh the answers.
