After being deported from the United States to Mexico on August 19, 2025, Julio César Chávez Jr., son of the real “César del Boxeo”, was detained in the Federal Center for Social Readaptation No. 11, in Hermosillo, Sonora, a maximum security prison where he faces charges of possible links to the Sinaloa Cartel and arms trafficking.
On August 20, a federal judge ordered him to be remanded in custody, making it clear that he would remain behind bars while his legal future was being defined.
That same day, legendary ex-boxer Julio Cesar Chavez arrived in Hermosillo to be close to his son and the video of their reunion went viral.

He was clear in his statements: “My son is innocent of everything he is accused of… He is not even aware of it, if he were guilty he would already be worried. He says: ‘All that talk about me? I don’t belong to any cartel,'” he said.

Although he did not reveal further details, his gesture reflected solidarity and hope in the midst of one of the most difficult episodes the family has experienced.
In a subsequent hearing, Judge Enrique Hernández indicted the former boxer for organized crime, based on alleged interceptions and evidence presented by the Attorney General’s Office (FGR).
However, the same court allowed him to continue his trial at liberty, determining that there was insufficient evidence to justify his permanent confinement while the case progressed.

It didn’t take long for Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. to surprise everyone by training again.
Reuters reported that he was seen at the Coliseo Boxing Club in Hermosillo, practicing in front of a punching bag, a symbol that his life continues with some normality despite the legal process.
