Santita’, the first series by Colombian director Rodrigo García, which will premiere on April 22 on the Netflix platform, places Mexico as the main setting, as it was filmed in two cities in the country and will feature Mexican actors Gael García Bernal, Ilse Salas and Erik Hayser.
The streaming platform informed Thursday in a press release that the production will follow the story of Santita, starring Colombian Paulina Dávila, who after an accident abandons the love of her life (García Bernal) at the altar, but two decades later must confront the decision she made in her past.

The entertainment giant said that the Mexican capital and the border city of Tijuana will be the locations for the series directed by García, who has already collaborated with Netflix on films such as ‘Las Locuras’ (2025) and ‘Familia’ (2023).
With this production, the director of ‘Four More Days’ (2020), starring American actress Glenn Close, once again exploits his passion for exploring the dramatic genre through female characters, in this case with María José Cano, affectionately nicknamed Santita.
According to Netflix, this acid humor character suffers a car accident that will result in a disability, which, to some extent, will forge her personality: that of an irreverent, unconventional and deeply human woman.
“I know I’m a cabrona and I’ve been a cabrona. And, probably, I will always be a cabrona,” Santita exclaimed in the trailer published Thursday by the platform.

Surrounding the plot starring García Bernal and Dávila are secondary characters such as Hayser and Salas, who play the role of uniting and confronting the impossible couple.
Santita’ is yet another Netflix bet to promote stories made in Mexico and with national talent, as the multinational has earmarked an investment of US$1 billion between 2025 and 2028 to make this type of productions, reported Agencia EFE.
