The return of the K-pop superband BTS to the stage resulted in their debut on the Netflix video platform topping the charts in 77 countries, including South Korea, according to early estimates, despite a lower-than-expected volume of fans in Seoul.

The event, held last Saturday in the South Korean capital and streamed live by Netflix, was positioned this Monday as the platform’s most watched production in more than 70 countries, according to figures from FlixPatrol, a website that tracks and ranks the most popular content on streaming services in 167 countries.

The live event reached the ‘Top 3’ in all markets, according to FlixPatrol, which showed early viewership forecasts pending official figures to be released by Netflix this Wednesday. The video platform has more than 300 million subscribers globally.

The digital success contrasts with the in-person attendance figures at South Korea’s Gwanghwamun Square, where police initially expected 260,000 people to congregate: 22,000 in the main venue and the rest in the surrounding area, where screens were set up to follow the event.

After the show, however, authorities estimated an attendance of approximately 45,000 fans, while Hybe, the South Korean band’s agency, estimated some 104,000 attendees at the concert and around the venue, according to a statement.

Despite the disparity in the face-to-face count, the group’s commercial impact continued, reported Agencia EFE, with nearly four million copies of its new album ‘Arirang’, its first studio album since Proof (2022), sold in its first weekend, according to figures from Hanteo Chart.
