“Obsession” continues to establish itself as one of the biggest cinematic phenomena of the year. The film, directed by Curry Barker, is not only performing exceptionally well at the U.S. box office but is also continuing to expand its success internationally.
Thanks to its recent release in new markets, the film has reached a record-breaking figure and is now very close to joining the select group of the ten highest-grossing horror films of all time.
Industry projections indicate that the film still has a long run ahead of it in theaters and that it could end its theatrical run with box office receipts exceeding $400 million—a figure that would have been unthinkable for a production that began as a modest venture within the genre.
Obsession: A Strong Performance in the United States

During its seventh weekend in theaters, *Obsession* once again demonstrated its commercial strength by grossing $9.8 million between Friday and Sunday. Although this figure represents a decline of nearly 27% compared to the previous weekend, it remains an extraordinary result for a horror film that has been in theaters for several weeks now.
With this new momentum, the film’s North American box office total rose to $233.9 million, officially making it the sixth-highest-grossing horror film in U.S. history. In doing so, it surpassed the historic performance of *The Exorcist*, which for decades was considered one of the genre’s most iconic films.
The success of *Obsesión* is not limited to the U.S. market. Over the same weekend, the film debuted in Germany and Spain, where it received a positive response from audiences.
In total, the film grossed 13.7 million dollars in international markets, of which 2.6 million came from Germany and another 1.4 million from Spain.
Thanks to these results, box office receipts outside North America reached $136.2 million, spread across a total of 58 territories where the film is currently in theaters.
Combined domestic and international box office receipts enabled *Obsesión* to reach a global box office total of $370.1 million, cementing its status as one of the biggest box office hits of 2026.
With that figure, the film now ranks 11th among the highest-grossing horror films of all time. To reach that position, it surpassed such popular titles as *A Quiet Place*, *Alien: Romulus*, *Hannibal*, and *The Nun*, all of which are considered landmarks of the genre in recent decades.
Now, the next goal is even more ambitious: to make it into the all-time Top 10.
Just one step away from beating Sinners

Currently, the tenth spot on the list belongs to *Sinners*, a film that ended its theatrical run with a worldwide box office total of $371 million.
The difference between the two films is minimal. *Obsession* needs just one million dollars more to surpass that milestone and become the tenth highest-grossing horror film in cinema history.
Analysts believe that this goal could be achieved in a matter of days, especially given the film’s strong performance in several international markets.
Everything points to the success of *Obsession* continuing to grow over the coming weeks. The most recent estimates indicate that the film could end its worldwide run with a box office total of around $425 million, a figure that would place it among the biggest commercial hits in horror cinema.
The impressive performance of the production directed by Curry Barker confirms that the genre continues to enjoy widespread popularity with audiences and that original projects still have the potential to become true global box-office phenomena.
