The NBA announced Tuesday, Nov. 11, a new format for the 2026 All-Star Game, with two teams made up of U.S. players and one made up of players from around the world.

The 2026 All-Star Game will be played on February 15 at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles, home of the Clippers. The new format calls for a group stage with four games of 12 minutes each, and the two winners of the group stage will advance to the finals.

Teams shall consist of a minimum of eight players each.

Twelve players from the NBA’s Western Conference and twelve from the NBA’s Eastern Conference will star in the All-Star game.

This is a new attempt by the NBA to restore luster and competitiveness to an All-Star game that in recent years has been heavily criticized for the lack of commitment shown by the players.

The NBA All-Star Game was born in 1951 at the Boston Garden as a way to celebrate the talent of the league’s stars and attract public attention after the early years of the NBA.

Since then, it has become one of the most iconic events in American sports.

It brings together the best players from the Eastern and Western Conferences in one show.

For decades, the traditional format was an inter-conference duel, but the league has experimented with new ideas to keep fans interested.

In 2018, for example, the format was implemented with captains choosing their teams, and for 2026, the NBA announced the United States vs. Rest of the World.

More than just a game, All-Star Weekend is a global celebration that includes contests, exhibitions and tributes to basketball greats.
