New York is gearing up for the wedding of pop star Taylor Swift and NFL player Travis Kelce, whose celebrations are set to take place over the July 4 weekend at Madison Square Garden (MSG), according to The New York Times, which cites municipal permits, hotel reservations, and sources familiar with the preparations.
Entertainment media outlets such as TMZ were already speculating that the 36-year-old artist plans to get married and hold her wedding celebrations somewhere in the city center, such as MSG, the Rockefeller Center skyscraper complex, or the iconic Public Library.
Three people familiar with the matter told The Times that a permit has been requested from the city to close the streets surrounding the popular stadium from July 2 through noon on July 4, in order to hold an event on July 3.
Specifically, Winick Productions, an event planning company, applied in early June to the Office of Permits for Public Street Activities for authorization to set up a tent or a canopy outside the stadium for an event expected to draw between 500 and 999 attendees.
The newspaper also reports that several players from the Kansas City Chiefs—the team Kelce plays for—have booked rooms at a hotel in Times Square for dates around July 3.
In addition, officers patrolling the train station near the stadium have been informed that Swift’s wedding is “scheduled for the Fourth of July weekend,” the newspaper adds.
That same day, the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence will be celebrated with fireworks in various parts of the city and a sailboat parade on the Hudson River, while on the 5th, neighboring New Jersey will host a World Cup soccer match, so a large number of tourists are expected in the Big Apple, according to Agencia EFE.
