Timbiriche, one of the most influential groups in Mexican pop, is set to make the leap into fiction with a series inspired by its history. The series will premiere on ViX on October 9, and since its announcement, it has generated great anticipation among fans, as well as controversy over some of the characters and storylines it will explore.
According to the streaming platform, the series will premiere a new episode every Friday and will be inspired by real events, depicting the formation of the band that left its mark on an entire generation and became a musical phenomenon in Latin America.
Timbiriche: The Origins of a Pop Phenomenon
The story will show how a group of talented young people brought to life one of the most successful bands in Spanish-language music. In addition to recreating Timbiriche’s early years, the production will explore their rise to fame, the pressure of success, and the personal relationships that developed among its members.
The central characters will include figures such as Sasha Sokol, Benny Ibarra, Alix Bauer, Paulina Rubio, Mariana Garza, and Diego Schoening, who were part of different eras of the group and helped solidify its artistic legacy.
According to the official synopsis, the series will focus not only on the band’s musical successes, but also on the rivalries, internal conflicts, and moments of tension that arose behind the scenes as the band rose to fame.
To bring this story to the screen, the production assembled a cast led by Macarena García, Luis de la Rosa, Sebastián Poza, Iker Solano, Edu Maruri, Michelle Pellicer, Sol Wainer, Jesusa Ochoa, and Andrea Chaparro, among other actors.
One of the characters that has sparked the most discussion is producer Luis de Llano, played by Osvaldo Benavides. His inclusion has drawn reactions due to the producer’s significance during the group’s early years and the controversies surrounding him today.
The Controversy Surrounding Sasha Sokol and Luis de Llano
The anticipation surrounding the series is also buzzy about the circumstances surrounding one of its most controversial characters. In 2022, Sasha Sokol filed a civil lawsuit for emotional distress against Luis de Llano, publicly accusing him of having had a relationship with her when she was a minor.
The case resulted in a civil court ruling, and the producer’s name recently made headlines again due to a buzzy legal proceeding related to compliance with that court ruling.
So far, ViX has not revealed which specific events will be covered in the series or the extent to which these events will be portrayed within the fiction. Nor have the former members of Timbiriche issued any public statements about the production.
With a mix of nostalgia, music, and drama, the series promises to bring to life one of the most important chapters in Mexican entertainment, while audiences wait to discover how the story behind one of Latin pop’s most iconic bands will be portrayed.
