In his message, the artist noted that he had devoted time, effort, and even part of his life to the show, but he maintained that a post shared weeks earlier about an episode that had not yet aired had sparked speculation about his love life.
According to Lupillo, that situation led to rumors and comments that affected people close to him, so he decided to leave the competition as a way to protect his family and limit the exposure of his personal life.
His comments sparked a heated debate among fans of the reality show and social media users.
However, Lupillo’s absence was short-lived. In Sunday’s episode of Top Chef VIP, several former contestants returned to compete for a spot in the competition, and the singer was one of the two contestants chosen to rejoin the show.
When explaining why he decided to return, Lupillo revealed that the most important conversation he had was with his mother.
“While talking with my mother, she told me, ‘You have to come back and don’t give anyone who doesn’t want you here the satisfaction. If you have to leave, let it be because they beat you, not because you ran away,’” the singer shared.
The advice finally convinced him to return and take on the culinary challenge once again.

After regaining his spot in the competition, Lupillo said he was satisfied with the decision he made.
“I’m glad I made that decision,” he said, referring to his return to the show hosted by Carmen Villalobos.
His return was also celebrated by many fans of the reality show, who, since the start of the season, had considered him one of the strongest and most charismatic contestants in the competition.
