Betrayal of his own sister? After announcing a hiatus for Jesse & Joy, Jesse Huerta is now announcing a new band

Jesse & Joy’s hiatus continues to spark reactions and has now given rise to differing accounts of how the decision was made. Days after Joy Huerta revealed that she had found out just 20 minutes before her brother’s official announcement , Jesse Huerta responded publicly to clarify that his new musical project had been in the works for months and that both his sister and the team were aware of those plans.
The exchange of statements has sparked concern among fans of the duo, which for more than two decades has been one of the most successful projects in Spanish-language pop. However, both artists agree on one point: the hiatus does not mark the definitive end of Jesse & Joy.
Jesse Huerta claims that everything was planned

In a post on social media, Jesse explained that his new project, Jesse and the Supernovas, wasn’t the result of his decision to take a break, but rather a project that had been in the works for quite some time.
“Jesse and the Supernovas didn’t come about because of this decision; it’s a project that had been planned and discussed for months. My sister and the team knew about it,” the musician wrote.
Jesse also emphasized that continuing to create music does not conflict with his need to take a break and focus on his well-being. As he explained, this new chapter represents a way to find peace and continue expressing himself artistically while going through a period of personal change.
The member of the duo reiterated that he did not abandon the project or neglect his sister. On the contrary, he said he made one of the hardest decisions of his career in order to listen to his family, his body, and his emotions.
“I’m not leaving when things are going badly; I chose this painful path at one of the best moments of our career,” he said in his statement.
Weeks earlier, Jesse had explained that his intense work schedule was preventing him from fully enjoying his family life, so he decided to prioritize his mental and emotional health and his peace of mind.
Joy Huerta admits she wasn’t prepared for the announcement

Jesse’s response came after Joy held a press conference on September 22, where she spoke for the first time about the duo’s hiatus.
Visibly moved, the singer confessed that the news took her completely by surprise and that she had learned of the decision just a few minutes before it was shared with the public.
“I found out 20 minutes before the rest of you. I’m still trying to process it—it’s just too much to take in,” she said through tears.
Despite this, Joy refrained from publicly questioning her brother and asked for respect for the reasons behind his decision. “He has his reasons; I can’t speak for him,” she said.
Although the brothers are entering a new phase in their careers, Joy made it clear that she will continue to perform the songs they created together over the course of more than 21 years.
The singer assured fans that she will go ahead with the already scheduled concerts and reiterated her commitment to the audience that has supported the duo for generations.
“More than 21 years ago, we began building something that has long since ceased to belong solely to us,” Joy wrote in a later post.
For now, Jesse will embark on his own journey with Jesse and the Supernovas, while Joy will continue to carry on the legacy of Jesse & Joy on stage, leaving open the possibility that the two will make music together again in the future.
