A new wave of gun violence rocked Chicago over the weekend, leaving at least six people dead and 39 injured in a series of shootings that reignited the debate over public safety in one of the largest cities in the United States.
The wave of violence caught the attention of President Donald Trump, who used the events as an opportunity to question the state authorities’ strategy and offer federal support to combat crime in the city.

According to information released by the authorities, one of the most serious incidents occurred Friday night in the Princeton Park neighborhood, south of Chicago.
According to the Chicago Police Department (CPD), an SUV pulled up to a group of people gathered in the area, and from inside the vehicle, two suspects began firing into the crowd before fleeing.
The attack left 13 people injured and prompted a large-scale mobilization of emergency services.
Authorities reported that the victims were taken to local hospitals to receive medical care.
Mayor Condemns the Violence
I am heartbroken by the violence that took place in Princeton Park last night.⁰⁰What should have been a night of celebration and community reflection for Juneteenth was shattered by a horrific act of violence. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their loved ones.

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson reacted to the shooting on social media, where he expressed his concern about what had happened.
“I am devastated by the violence that occurred at Princeton Park. What was supposed to be a night of celebration and community reflection for Juneteenth was shattered by a horrific act of violence,” the official said.
Johnson also extended his condolences to the victims and their families, while authorities continue to investigate the incident to identify and locate those responsible.
Trump Questions Illinois Officials

President Donald Trump used his Truth Social platform to address the security situation in Chicago and publicly criticized Illinois Governor JB Pritzker.
“There are a lot of murders in Chicago. Why doesn’t Governor Pritzker ask me for help? I could make Chicago a safe city in a month,” Trump wrote.
The president also compared the situation to Washington, D.C., where last year he ordered the deployment of hundreds of National Guard members as part of a strategy to reduce crime rates.
Trump claimed that the U.S. capital had gone from being one of the most dangerous cities to one of the safest thanks to the measures implemented by his administration.

So far, the Chicago Police Department is conducting multiple investigations into the various shootings that occurred over the weekend.
Authorities have not reported any arrests related to the Princeton Park attack or any possible links between the various violent incidents that have occurred in the city.
Meanwhile, the rise in gun violence remains one of the main challenges facing Chicago, a city that for years has grappled with problems related to gangs, illegal arms trafficking, and violent crime, which particularly affect certain communities in the metropolitan area.
