The Mexican National Soccer Team began this Monday its concentration of 24 players only from the local league at the High Performance Center, located south of Mexico City.
Javier ‘Vasco’ Aguirre received permission from the owners of the Mexican league teams to loan them players in a week that is not a FIFA date. The training camp will conclude this Wednesday.
The only condition was not to call U-20 Tri players, who are preparing for the World Cup in their category, which will take place next September.
Among the players who worked out on Monday were Mexican-born Argentinean Germán Berterame, striker for Rayados del Monterrey; winger Diego Lainez and center back Juan José Purata, both of Tigres UANL.
Purata was called in at the last minute by Aguirre.
This Monday, ‘el Vasco’, former coach of Atletico Madrid, put physical and ball exercises to his players, who are looking for a place in the final list of the Mexican National Team for the 2026 World Cup.
Most of the players, except for goalkeeper Raúl Rangel and Guadalajara’s Luis Romo, are not regulars in Aguirre’s call-ups, so these three days of work will help them earn a place in 2026.
The Mexican National Team’s next friendly matches will be in September, when they will face Japan and South Korea, according to EFE.
