Mexican wrestling will experience a historic moment on September 19, 2025, when the 92nd anniversary of the Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) will be celebrated at the Arena Mexico.

The company’s top event already has one of its stellar bouts confirmed: Místico will face MJF in a mask vs. championship match, one of the most risky and attractive stipulations for the fans.

The challenge is accepted

The story began when MJF, a wrestler from All Elite Wrestling (AEW), came to Mexico to defend the CMLL Semi-Complete World Championship against Zandokan Jr.

After his victory, Místico appeared to issue a direct challenge:

Expose his mask, the ultimate symbol of his career, against the American’s title.

Days later, on CMLL’s official newscast, the Prince of Silver and Gold confirmed his acceptance.

The only thing missing is the official signing of the contract for the duel to become a reality on the anniversary billboard.

A heated rivalry

Místico and MJF have already had previous confrontations.

The most memorable one occurred last June, during the AEW Grand Slam event at the same Arena Mexico.

That night, MJF defeated the Mexican with a foul after the referee’s distraction, increasing the tension between both gladiators and sowing the seed of this expected betting fight.

“I know he beat Templario, I know he beat Averno, now also Zandokan,” declared Místico.

I think he's getting too cocky, but I'm willing to put my mask at stake

The event will not only feature the duel between Místico and MJF. Other betting fights are also confirmed:

Rey Bucanero vs. Felino in a hair vs. scalp match.
The women’s couples championship will be on the line.
A roulette of couples with figures such as Último Guerrero, Averno, Dragón Rojo Jr., Bárbaro Cavernario, Efigie and Valiente, who will risk scalp or no scalp.

For Hispanics in the United States, this fight has a special appeal.

Not only does he face one of the living legends of Mexican wrestling as Místico, but also a wrestler of international stature as MJF, figurehead of AEW and current champion.
