The incident involved Argentine midfielder Leandro Paredes and Spanish defender Eric García, who were caught up in a physical altercation that sparked an argument between players from both teams.

The final between Spain and Argentina was intense from the very first minute.
Both teams fought hard for every ball, and the referee had to step in constantly to control a game that was marked by fouls and physical play.
The situation became even more complicated in the final minutes of regulation time, when Enzo Fernández was sent off after receiving a second yellow card for a foul on Pau Cubarsí in the 90th minute.
The Albiceleste played the entire extra time with one player fewer, having accumulated a total of six yellow cards during the match.
Finally, Ferran Torres scored the only goal of the match in the 106th minute of extra time, giving Spain a 1-0 victory and its second World Cup title in history, following the one won in South Africa in 2010.

With the game already over and as the Spanish players began celebrating their championship victory, the tension that had built up over more than two hours finally erupted.
Leandro Paredes got into a confrontation with Eric García during the celebrations.
In the midst of the clash between the two players, the Spanish defender ended up lying on the field, prompting an immediate reaction from players on both teams.
Within seconds, several starting players, substitutes, and members of the coaching staff rushed in to try to defuse the situation, while others joined the argument.
The scene forced officials to intervene to separate the players and prevent the altercation from escalating further.

Aside from the post-match brawl, the 2026 World Cup final was marked by intense physical play and numerous fouls.
Enzo Fernández’s ejection and the numerous yellow cards reflected the competitive atmosphere throughout the 120 minutes.
Despite the incidents that occurred after the final whistle, Spain was able to celebrate its second world championship, while Argentina finished the tournament as runner-up after coming very close to defending the title it won in Qatar 2022.
So far, no potential disciplinary sanctions have been announced in connection with the altercation involving players from both teams following the conclusion of the 2026 FIFA World Cup match.
