The fifth installment of the “Toy Story” franchise topped the box office this past weekend with a global gross of $312 million, of which $160 million came from the United States alone following its release, according to data from the specialized website Box Office Mojo.
Its opening weekend box office in the United States is the highest of 2026 to date, surpassing the film *Super Mario Bros. Galaxy*, which grossed $130.9 million on its first day in April. (It opened two days early due to the Easter holiday and reached $190.1 million in five days), according to The Hollywood Reporter (THR).
It also sets a new record for the franchise, surpassing the $120.9 million earned by “Toy Story 4” on its opening weekend in 2019.

“Disclosure Day,” Steven Spielberg’s new film, has dropped to second place in the box office rankings with weekend earnings of 17 million, though it has already grossed a total of 160 million since its release.
In its first weekend in theaters, Spielberg’s alien movie, starring Emily Blunt and Josh O’Connor, had already grossed $92.8 million at the box office.
“Obsession” has grossed another $14.2 million in recent days, bringing the independent film’s worldwide box office total to $333 million.
Rounding out the top 3 is the low-budget horror film *Backrooms* with 7.3 million, bringing its total box office to 272 million, while ‘Scary Movie,’ the sixth installment in this horror-comedy franchise, took in 6.7 million, bringing its worldwide gross to date to 201 million since its release on June 5, according to Agencia EFE.
